The history of Bread of Life:
The founding pastor of the Bread of Life Church was Rev. Anthony Leotis Callahan, Sr. Prior to pastoring, Rev. Callahan served five years under the leadership of Dr. Charles Perkins, Senior Pastor of Meadowbrook First Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. During his time there, Pastor Callahan served as President of the Men's Ministry, as a deacon, as Youth Director, Youth Pastor, as well as Youth Director of the Original Harmony Baptist District Association.
In June 2004, Pastor Callahan was asked to serve as Senior Pastor of The Bread of Life Community Church located at 3128 Forest Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76112. He was officially ordained in the ministry on August 7, 2004. After much prayer and seeking of counsel, on September 3, 2004, Pastor Callahan took the leadership as Senior Pastor of The Bread of Life Community Church.
Within a few years the church grew both spiritually and numerically between 40 to 50 members. The associate ministers that God sent to assist and support Pastor Callahan were Rev. Gocha and Rev. Freeman. God saw fit to bless Pastor Callahan and The Bread of Life Community Church family with a Computer Lab and Nursery. Many computer classes were offered both to the church membership as well as the community. The church was also blessed with pews, the pulpit podium, tables and chairs for the sanctuary, the downstairs fellowship hall, office furniture for the Pastor's study, a secretary's office, and sound room equipment. All of these were donated. Fervent prayer and faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ pays off.
The ministries, departments and committees of The Bread of Life Community Church consisted of the Men's Ministry, Deacon Board, Women's Ministry, Youth Department, Van Ministry, Outreach Ministry, Kitchen Department, Homeless Ministry, Hospitality Committee, Pastor's Aide Committee and Vacation Bible School Committee.
Pastor Callahan continued to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ each Sunday, teach the word every Wednesday, and knocked on doors scheduled Saturdays along with days during the week. He had a genuine passion for helping people. He loved doing whatever he could to render help when needed. Because of this, one of Bread of Life's greatest devotions was to Room In The Inn. Bread of Life supported this organization, Room In The Inn, each Thursday during the summer months of June, July, and August and the winter months of October and November. We provided transportation from the homeless district to the church, where dinner was served that night and breakfast the next morning for 8 men. They were also offered Christian counseling from Pastor Callahan, took part in testimony period and were given bedding for a safe and peaceful night's rest.
The church continued to grow spiritually under Pastor Anthony Callahan, Sr.'s leadership. A Pastor's wife was also added to the membership. The Lord answered Pastor Callahan's prayers and he married Ludetra Callahan.
The church, community, and the city of Fort Worth has benefited greatly from Pastor Anthony Callahan's spiritual guidance, unique preaching and teaching style to stand on the word of the Lord Jesus Christ. He firmly believed that anyone could be reached. His favorite saying was BUT GOD, Ephesians 2:4-10.
This type of passion has continued under the leadership of our new Pastor, Rev. T. D. Desso, installed in January 2020.
